First edition in Cabras promises to deliver a spectacle
Thursday 5 December 2024
On Sunday, December 8, the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup will, for the first time, head to the beautiful Cabras in Sardinia. This calls for a brief preview of what awaits you and the riders. The dry grass, interspersed with sandy sections and patches of gravel-like terrain, will ensure a high pace.
On the fast course with minimal elevation, World Cup leader Lucinda Brand is the clear favorite among the women. Sara Casasola, Annemarie Worst and Laura Verdonschot will do everything they can to challenge Brand.
In the men's race, led by Michael Vanthourenhout, almost the entire top 8 of the standings will compete for victory in Cabras. Top contenders Eli Iserbyt and Toon Aerts will be aiming for a double: winning the first edition in Sardinia and taking the leader's jersey.
Moreover, the riders will tackle the course alongside the stunning and protected quartz beach. The green-pink glow that appears when the sun hits the beach adds an extra dimension to the spectacle in Cabras. Combine that with a magnificent view of the Mediterranean Sea, and you get an idyllic setting for a captivating race.
