A UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup race was held in Maasmechelen for the first time ever. In front of a large crowd, Laurens Sweeck won the first World Cup round of his career in the elite men's category. Among the women, Fem Van Empel managed to win her fourth consecutive World Cup race.
